This investment underscores a commitment to sustainability and confidence in the future of Lincoln and in the growth of the natural, raw pet food category
LINCOLN, Neb. - AstroBug -- Instinct Pet Food is excited to celebrate their new Center of Excellence (CoE) expansion at a ribbon cutting event on Wed, June 5, 2024, in Lincoln, NE.
The completion of phase one of the CoE marks a significant milestone in Instinct's journey towards a more sustainable future – and that future includes more raw, minimally processed pet food for dogs and cats everywhere.
Instinct has been producing frozen and freeze-dried raw recipes in Lincoln for over 20 years and is excited to invest significantly to expand operations. This investment demonstrates Instinct's confidence in the future of Lincoln and in the growth of the natural, raw pet food category.
Pet parents are stepping away from ultra-processed options and seeking real food for their beloved pets. Instinct is proud to offer best-in-class raw nutrition with minimally processed frozen and freeze-dried raw meals.

The CoE expansion will enable Instinct to make more raw pet food – and more quickly – to satisfy the growing demand for high-quality, healthy feeding solutions. This demand proves that raw nutrition is much more than a pet food trend – it's a movement. And there is growing scientific evidence of the benefits of natural raw diets like Instinct, coming from university studies in Helsinki and beyond.
Instinct has been a raw leader since their start in 2001 and is proud to build on their raw heritage with this state-of-the-art, sustainably built facility. The CoE is LEED Certified®, making Instinct one of the few pet food manufacturing plants in the USA with this globally recognized symbol of sustainability achievement.
Along with LEED certification, the CoE has consolidated work to a single campus that had previously been done across multiple locations. By consolidating campuses and other process improvements, their carbon footprint will be reduced by 272,000 lbs annually – roughly equivalent to the emissions from approximately 37 round-trip flights between New York City and Los Angeles!

But it doesn't stop there – as a part of their sustainability journey, Instinct is committed to becoming Carbon Neutral by 2050, with ambitious plans for 2030. This commitment reflects their deep-seated responsibility towards creating a better world for our children and pets.
There are more exciting developments to come, as this marks the completion of Phase one construction – all phases are expected to be complete by March 2025.
As they commemorate the CoE, Instinct not only celebrates a new chapter in their journey, but also reaffirms their pledge to sustainability, innovation, and community development.
